Costa Rica and Greece play each other in knockout round of FIFA World Cup 2014

Costa Rica vs Greece : Preview and Probable Lineup

Mitroglou will be benched in expense of Samaras

Costa Rica topped their group after going undefeated throughout the group stage accumulating seven points from three matches they played. Costa Rica opened their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Uruguay, who also went through from the group as runners up but lost to Colombia in knockout stage match yesterday. Costa Rica continued to shock the world with a 1-0 victory over Italy and then played out a 0-0 draw against England in final match of their group.

Greece came into the knockout stage after a late drama in their match against Ivory Coast. It seemed Greece wer to be knocked out in expense of the African nation but a late penalty from Giorgis Samaras put them through as they won the match 2-1 and leaped over Ivory Coast to the second position. Greece started their tournament in worst possible scenario after losing their inaugural match to Colombia by 3-0. They played out a goal-less draw against Japan in the second match of their group stage fixtures.

Team News:

Randall Brenes and Roy Miller were in the lineup when they played 0-0 draw to England but both of them will miss in this game as they look to put their strongest lineup to go through. Coach Jorge Luis Pinto might favor the same side which defeated Italy 1-0 in their second group match.

Panagiotis Kone and Orestis Karnezis are both doubtful for the match but the latter is expected to start despite being subbed off in earlier stage in the match against Ivory Coast. Samaras will lead the line after their forwards faltered.

Probable Starting Lineup:
