Sagar Thapa has been captaining the National side for 6 years now and has been playing at the heart of the defense since 2003, but who can be the next to fill in his boots?

With Sandip Rai and Sagar Thapa at the back, we have seen Nepal play well but as Sagar Thapa looks like he will be the one to end the partnership, we list out some candidates who could be seen partnering Sandip Rai at the back.

1. Jitendra Karki (Nepal Army Club)

The lanky defender was called up by Graham Roberts for the national team and made his debut but never really impressed in National colors. He played well during his NRT Career and joined Nepal Army and has been bettering his performance too.

2. Ravi Silwal (Boys Union Club)

Ravi Silwal spend much of his time at NRT in bench with Raghu, Jitendra and Suleiman on the team. He joined Boys Union this season and was declared best defender of NCell Cup when his team played final of the tournament. He is not yet called up for the camp but he might be snapped up by one of the big clubs and if he is to play the way he is doing, we can soon see him in the National Jersey.

3. Ananta Thapa (ANFA U-16)

The youngster has been in the shadow of Bimal Gharti Magar but his outstanding ability to read the play with his physical presence is already great and with time that will just improve. He was called up for National Camp and made the tour with the team when Stefanowski was in charge.

4. Saroj Dahal (Three Star Club)

The defender started his career from Madhyapur and then joined Three Star Club. He then transferred to Himalayan Sherpa wth Upendra Man Singh and played well as a right back. But with his team Madhyapur in top flight, he played for his home club but could not save them from the drop despite playing well. He returned to Three Star this season but had a drop in early season form and has been vying for a place at the back.

5. Rohit Chand (Persija, Indonesia)

Rohit started his career as a centre back and hs been playing as a Central Defensive Midfielder these days. In Graham Roberts’ era, he was used as one of the defender in 3 men back but with new manager and tactics he has been playing as CDM. But with the change in position in Club and country, can he adapt to his game? The gamble is yet to be seen whether it pays off or not.
