According to reports, England boss Gareth Southgate advised Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain about the possible outcomes of joining Chelsea over Liverpool.
The 24-year-old played six seasons for the Gunners before completing a £40million move to Anfield but Chelsea were in pole position to sign him earlier this summer.
The England star was considering to move to Stamford Bridge but after a conversation with Southgate he was convinced to move to Anfield turning down Antonio Conte’s advances ahead of the 2017/2018 campaign.
As reports said, Southgate has warned his England players that failure to play for their respective club will have an impact on their chance to receive international call-ups.
Following his move to Merseyside, Oxlade-Chamberlain told his Instagram followers: ‘I know my choice might come as a surprise to many, and the decision to leave was tough after being a part of the club for so many years.’
‘But I feel that this move is right for the next stage in my ongoing development.’
