Antonio Conte hails ‘great spirit and personality’ of David Luiz after Tottenham victory

After the 2-1 victory against Tottenham, Antonio Conte praised Chelsea star David Luiz for his amazing performance at Wembley.

Marcos Alonso’s goals either side of MichyBatshuayi’s own goal gave Chelsea their first win of the season to relieve pressure on the champions.

Luiz was man of the match in blues determined display though he started from mid-field in much changed Chelsea side.

Conte was delighted with his performance and said he was ‘point of reference’ foe Chelsea’s teammates throughout the whole game.

‘I think David played very well, it was an amazing performance,’ said Conte.

‘He played with great spirit and personality. I think he was a real point of reference for the other players.

‘Don’t forget that we played with four new players from last season. When you change two players like Luiz and Cahill and replace with young players like Christensen and Rudiger- it was only his second appearance – then it’s not easy.

‘Despite this we showed great desire to stay compact, not to lose the balance and to show that we are champions’.
