Nepal Army Club defeats Nepal Police Club 3-1 in an interesting final match played at Sahid Maidan, Biratnagar.
Jumanu Rai scored through penalty before Tek Bahadur Budathoki, Bharat Khawas and Tanka Basnet completed their team’s ‘mission comeback’ to confirm themselves as the winner of first Shree Ganesh Man Singh Memorial International Gold Cup tournament.
Rabin Shrestha was brough down in 20th minute of the match for which Nepal Police Club were awarded the penalty kick. Jumanu Rai did no mistake to score through the spot kick as Nepal Police Club got ahead in the game.
The glory short lived for Nepal Police Club as Army men could equalize, thanks to blunder from Ritesh Thapa who let the slippery ball pass through his gloves between his legs on Tek Bahadur Budathoki’s goal that made the score leveled.
Nepal Police Club had great grip in the game at the starting half as they remained the possessive side, however Army men turned the things upside down forcing NPC to rather prefer defensive formation in the later half.
Nepal Army club came through series of attacks, as a result of which man of the match Bharat Khawas could beautifully place the ball onto right corner in 90th minute that provoked Army fans that were lively with drums and claps. Minutes later in the stoppage time, second half sub Tanka Basnet confirmed his team’s victory with a right footed goal through 10 yards to confirm Army’s grip in the title.
