Liverpool end up in a frustrating 1-1 draw at Anfield in merseyside derby as they miss out on a chance to climb to their third place in the league table.

Rooney

A goal from Salah took the hosts ahead in the match, however second half penalty from Wayne Rooney cancelled out Liverpool’s chance to get full three points in a match they dominated. This was first ever goal for Wayne Rooney in a merseyside derby.

Chelsea lost to West Ham earlier which provided Liverpool with great chance to move ahead in the third place, however despite of a dominant performance from Liverpool, they failed to register victory.

Jurgen Klopp made six changes including Solanke ahead of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in lineup. A fine 42 minute display from Egyptian winger Salah found the lead for Liverpool as his left footed shot curled in for a goal. Liverpool could have doubled their tally but Sadio Mane fabricated a shot in a 3 v 2 situation shooting it wide.

Earlier in the second half, great cross from Alex Oxlade Chamberlain found Salah , whose header went wide.

Dejan Lovren pushed over Dominic Calvert-Lewin which provided Everton with a penalty. Rooney made no mistake placing it straight and powerful to frustrate Liverpool fans with his first ever merseyside derby goal.

Although Liverpool creates hosts of chances, they failed to score, ending up in a 1-1 draw.
