If the deal goes on for a proposed fee, which is expected to be in the region of  £45m, it will be world record fee for goalkeeper.

When asked by one Portuguese news source, Ederson commented that he was unaware about interest from city but he explained that he had already played his last game with Benfica.

The highly-rated 23-year-old Brazilian shot-stopper originally joined Benfica as a 16-year-old but he was released after 2 years and spent time with Portuguese lower-league side Ribeirao and then Rio Ave, prior to Benfica signed him once again in the summertime of 2015.

His possible arrival at the Etihad Arena casts further question over the leads of City’s England global keeper Joe Hart, who has gotten on financing at Torino.

City had their troubles with the goalkeeper setting last period adhering to the debatable decision to jettison Hart.

Claudio Bravo was signed for ₤ 17.1 m from Barcelona last summer season but came in for objection before grabbing an injury in the direction of the end of the project, while Willy Caballero will certainly leave when his contract expires this summertime.

As well as Ederson is possibly set to test Bravo, having won a set of League titles at Benfica as well as been called into the Brazil squad in March, although he is yet to be covered at senior level.

He made just what could prove to be his final appearance for Benfica on Sunday evening as they finished the double by defeating Vitoria Guimaraes 2-1 in the Portuguese Cup last.
