After injury to James Rodriguez, Rafael Benitez was in dilemma on who to play as No. 10 and Gareth Bale answered in best possible way as he excelled in the role being tested by the manager. Bale provided two assists to Cristiano Ronaldo who scored five goals in the match to break Raul’s goalscoring record at the club. Raul had needed 550 games to reach his 228 goals; Ronaldo has now scored 230 goals in just 204 matches. The Portugese was under pressure after failing to score in previous outings.

Bale was impressive throughout the game as he won a penalty and provided two assists in the match. Bale was brought down in the box by  Alvaro and the referee booked the defender as well as spotted towards the penalty. Bale is having a great start to season with both the club and country.
