Tottenham Hotspur nearing completion of Toby Alderweireld transfer from Atletico Madrid

Belgian International and former Saints defender Toby Alderweireld is set to join Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid.

Reports from England have revealed that Belgian International defender Toby Alderweireld will be joining Tottenham Hotspur within a week. The former Southampton defender is said to have agreed personal terms with Spurs and the clubs have also agreed on a fee. The 26 year old defender spent a season in Premier League for Saints and is interested in returning to the league.

However, former loanee club Southampton is also said to be in race to sign the defender. There was a clause in the loan move which Saints triggered but Ateltico have opted to sell for highest bidder, in form of Tottenham. Even though the result could hand some compensation to Southampton, they are trying to pay more to land the signature of the defender. Belgium internationals Nacer Chadli, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele have all urged Alderweireld to join them in London club.
