Atletico Madrid complete transfer of Arsenal and Liverpool target Jackson Martinez

Colombian forward Jackson Martinez has completed transfer to Atletico Madrid on a four year deal despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.

FC Porto forward Jackson Martinez has signed for La Liga outfit Ateltico Madrid. After shipping out Mario Mandzukic to Juventus, Atletico signed Martinez on a four year deal. The Colombia striker was being watched by Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool but did not make any formal bids. Despite agreeing transfer fee and terms with AC Milan few days ago, Martinez’s move to San Siro did not go through.

Martinez scored 21 goals in 30 league matches while he also had seven UEFA Champions League goal to its name. The player was happy with the move and said he is looking forward for four years with Atleti.

“I can confirm I am going to Atletico,” he is quoted by AS as saying after Colombia’s Copa America exit against Argentina.

“I am going there for four years but I still do not know when I will be introduced.”

He added: “I have had great progression, always learning, always growing and now I’m going to Atletico where I hope to help the team and continue to grow as a player.”
