Manchester United are set to sign Atheltic Bilbao’s French defender Aymeric Laporte in this transfer window.

The 20-year old defender, who was said to be chased by top clubs around Europe is said to have signed for Manchester United.  Laporte is said to have agreed personal terms and with clubs having good realtions with recent transfer, the transfer fee is just a formality as per the reports

It is said that Manchester United have offered 25million pounds for the services of young Frenchmen but Bilbao are holding out for a bit more. The final agreement is soon to come as Manchester United are short of a first choice center back having used six players already this season. Among the six players used, Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair had never started first team game the previous season while Marcos Rojo signed for the club just this season. Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones have all been struggling with injuries and United even had to play Michael Carrick as center half in some occasions.

Statswise, Laporte has been unsung hero of Bilabo’s backline in past two seasons. Despite his young age, the defender has been brilliant in the defensive third of Basque club. Manchester United acquired services of Ander Herrera in the summer this season and it is said that Herrera himself asked Van Gaal to make the transfer go through.
