Ched Evans just finished two and a half years in jail for raping a 19 year old in a hotel.  Kicked off of Sheffield United for the crime, he’s now about to join Hartlepool’s team.

This English team wants to add Ched Evans, 25, who was released from jail in October, but his old team couldn’t re-sign him because there was so much controversy and generated massive public outcry.  Many celebrities following the team threatened to quit if they signed him.  Even the deputy Prime minister, Nick Clegg, was involved in stopping the hiring.

Now lower league team Hartlepool’s manager, Ronnie Moore, says they will give Evans the chance.  He was quoted as saying:

‘It’s a possibility.

‘If it could happen, I would want it to happen. He is a proven scorer; he’s served his time and the boy wants to play football.

‘If there is a chance he might come here, I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t.

‘He has made a mistake and maybe he hasn’t apologised in the right way – and I know he has an appeal case pending – but if he gets on the park, he would go a long way to getting us out of trouble.’

The controversy has already begun with this statement with local political leads speaking out against the hiring.
