Nepalese League  champion, Manang Marshyangdi Club lost final of Governer’s Gold Cup Tournament held in Sikkim on Tuesday. MMC lost to ONGC from Mumbai in penalties after the regulation time ended ona 2-2 draw.

Manang, who went to Sikkim to play the prestigious gold cup were without their senior players but still made their way to the final. The final started off on a bad note as they fell behind to a 2-0th minute goal from Kailash Patel. The bad got worst as the Nepalese team fell further behind as Lalmupania scored a brilliant free-kick in the 36th minute for the Mumbai based team.

Manang got glimmer hopes of a comeback as Sujal scored the spot kick in second half and Dodoz got the equaliser late in the second half to take the game to spot kick. None of the players from Manang could score the spot kick as the Nepalese team settled for a second place finish for two years in a row.

Manang were awarded with IRs. 50,000 while the winners ONGC got cash reward of IRs. 1,00,000. Sikkim’s minister of Sports, Pawan Chamling gave away the prize to winners and runner ups.
