Paragon and Jana Jyoti clinch the Coca-Cola Cup 2071 U-16 Football Tournament

Kathmandu, 11 September, 2014: The final match of the Coca-Cola Cup Inter School National Football Tournament was played at Dashrath Stadium in the Capital today. Paragon Public School, Kathmandu from Boys category and Jana Jyoti Higher Secondary School, Rautahat from Girls’ category clinched this year’s title.

The Coca-Cola Cup is an annual inter-school, grassroots football organized for last eight years by All Nepal Football Association and Nepal Government Ministry of Youth and Sports in association with the National Sports Council and Coca-Cola Nepal. Mr. Salman Latif Rawn, Managing Director of Bottler’s Nepal Ltd, DipendraNath Sharma,Secretary of Youth and Sports Ministry and Yubraj Lama, Member Secretary of National Sports Council present the winners with the Trophy and the cash prize, along with dignitaries of ANFA and Bottler’s Nepal.

The Boys team from Paragon Public School beat Shree Higher Secondary School, Mahottari 2-0 and in the girls’ category Jana Jyoti Higher Secondary School beat Buddha Higher Secondary School, Morang 3-0 in the tie-breaker.

This year’s tournament was conducted inthree stages, District, Regional and National level. The first phase of the tournament was conducted by local ANFA affiliated football organizations from 5th to 32nd of Shrawan in 42 different districts. The winning teams from the first phase then played in the district level knockout matches, at four different venues, with 2 teams qualifying from each round along with 8 teams from Kathmandu valley. The winning schools from the regional levels then were selected for the National level tournament played at Sano Gaucharan Football Ground from 2071, Bhadra 14-27

The winning boys team received Rs 3 lakh and the first, second and third runner ups received Rs 1.5 lakhs, Rs 75 thousand and Rs 50 thousand respectively. Similarly, in the girls’ category, the winning team was awarded Rs 2 lakh, while the first, second and third runner ups received Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50 thousand and Rs 25 thousand respectively.

As a part of the program ANFA scouts have chosen the best players of the tournament to train in the ANFA Football Academy. The chosen players will also get a chance to train with some of the best football coaches in Nepal. Talented players chosen by ANFA will also be trained on football skills, nutrition and fitness by functional experts.
