Japan and Greece have faced each other once in an International Friendly match and Japan won the match 1-0. The match was held in 2006 when Japan played the Confederations Cup as Asian Cup winner and Greece were representing Europe as then Euro 2004 winners. Masashi Oguro scored the winning goal in 76th minute that time.

Japan were caught napping in their first match after they fell to an impressive comeback from Ivory Coast, who scored 2 goals in 3 minutes to alter the scoreline from one goal down to a goal ahead. Keisuke Honda;s first half goal was not enough for the Asian Champions as they fell to a second half comeback from impressive African side. Wilfried Bony and Gervinho scored for Ivory Coast to register improtant three points in Group C encounter.

Greece lost their inaugural match of the World Cup 2014 against Colombia by 3-0. Pablo Armero’s first half goal was doubled by Teofeilo Guiterrez in the midway of second half as Greece looked bleak in attack and leaky at the back. James Rodriguez capped off his match winning performance by scoring a late goal which later saw him awarded the Man of the Match. Greece are in pressure to win the match if they are to continue their World Cup journey beyond group stage.
