Although the match looks theoretically easier one for Nepal when they take on lowly ranked Yemen, practically to be realistic, it is a tough challenge for Nepal National Team under new coach and fewer training sessions to challenge an Arab side Yemen.
Although Yemen(185) looks way behind in FIFA Ranking as compared to Nepal(160), we need to admit the fact that Yemen has been down in the rank because they play with other strong Arabi Nations.
Yemen’s Last Five Matches
Team | FIFA Rank | Result | Score |
Malaysia | 141 | Loss | 2-1 |
Iraq | 103 | Loss | 3-2 |
Qatar | 101 | Loss | 6-0 |
Qatar | 101 | Loss | 1-4 |
Bahrain | 106 | Loss | 2-0 |
Yemen has gathered arguably a good experience in their last five matches where they have played with tough nations like Iraq, Qatar (twice) and Bahrain. They gave a hard fight against Iraq which suggests Yemen will be a tough opponent for Nepal.
Its been 15 matches for Yemen National Team since they won last match, the victory came back in 2012 when they won 2-0 against Bahrain in 2012 Arab Nations Cup Group stage.
Nepal’s Last Five Matches
Team | FIFA Rank | Result | Score |
Bangladesh | 162 | Won | 2-0 |
Pakistan | 158 | Tie | 1-1 |
India | 152 | Won | 2-1 |
Afghanistan | 127 | Lost | 0-1 |
India | 152 | Lost | 0-2 |
Although Nepal has a considerably better performance when we compare the recent five matches, however when it was last time, Nepal played without much training and focus against India in a friendly match, Nepal was totally outplayed by the neighbors.
Similar is the condition at the moment, with Friendly lined up only six days later, the complete squad has played together only for a day now and the head coach of the team was only introduced couple of days back which suggests the task to take on Yemen will not be as easy as it appears.
* Nepal U22 lost 1-0 to Yemen U22 back in July 2012 in AFC U22 championship qualifiers.
