Nepal international Rohit Chand completed a prized mid-season transfer to Indonesian football giants Persija Jakarta from PSPS Pekanbaru.

Rohit Chand transfer to Jakarta rohit in Persija2

The transfer highlights Rohit’s rapid rise in the Indonesian Super League (ISL). He caught the eye of the capital side after several stellar displays for ISL minnows PSPS Pekanbaru in the first half of the league season that included several “Man of the Match” performances.

Persija Jakarta, who have been in the relegation zone for most of the ISL season signed Rohit along with 5 other players to help lift them to safety. Rohit’s contract at Persija Jakarta will be similar to the one at PSPS Pekanbaru that paid him USD 3,500 a month plus bonuses. The transfer fee between the two clubs has not been made public but is believed to be minimal as Rohit only signed a 10 month contract with the Pekanbaru outfit.

Persija Jakarta is one of Indonesia’s most successful and well-supported sides. They have won the Indonesian league 10 times and a Facebook page dedicated to the club has over 500,000 ‘Likes’. It is also the club where Indonesia’s best player in a generation – Bambang Pamungkas, played for a majority of his career.

According to veteran Indonesian soccer analyst Antony Sutton, amove to Indonesia’s capital will greatly boost Rohit’s footballing profile both in the country and the South East Asia region.

Rohit expressed his deep delight regarding the transfer. “I am absolutely thrilled about the move to Persija and excited to be joining one of Indonesia’s top clubs,” commented 21 year-old midfielder. “I am determined to help the club move up the league table and avoid relegation. I’m sure with the new signings we will be able to accomplish this.”

Rohit’s close advisor, Nabin Chitrakar, said that the move to Persija Jakarta was a welcome surprise and has accelerated Rohit’s dream of playing at the highest levels of club football. “We had hoped Rohit would eventually move to a top Indonesian club in 2 or 3 years, so we are overjoyed that the transfer came within 5 months of Rohit moving to Indonesia.”

Rohit’s potential debut match for Persija Jakarta is scheduled to take place on May 11 against Persiba Balikpapan.
