Should United Go For Moura and Van Persie?

The recent events has heavily linked Manchester United to Lucas Moura of Soa Paulo and Arsenal Ace Van Persie but are these signings really needed.

Robin Van Persie Vs Manchester United

Last season Manchester United had a mediocre side but side managed to pip to the second position and was able to mount a thrilling title challenge against the noisy neighbors, Manchester City. Many reviews of that season suggest that Manchester United lacked the cover in Midfield. United were in disarray before Paul Scholes came back from retirement half way through the season but can United still put all its hopes on Scholes who is 37 years old and in his last season? So from the midfield frailties one can suggest that United need someone who can recycle the ball through the midfield as quick and accurate as possible something Scholes has provided for over 12 years.

Looking at Moura and RVP one cannot see the midfield enforcer. They are of different origin to that of Scholes or anything that Manchester United needs the most. Moura is a free flowing footballer with a direct approach while playing. He especially plays in the no.10 or the wings where he attacks the defense head on with his bags of skills and loads of direct runs. In the other hand RVP is a striker and winger who has an eye for passes and goals. His 30 goal haul last season answers all the critics about his goalscoring exploits. He has the strength of bringing other teammates into play with his exquisite passes. He is famous for his intellegent runs rather than direct runs. The goal he scored against Everton assisted by Alex Song says it all.

Having all the abilites of great footballers they still lack something that Manchester United were lacking last season, the ability to control the play. Against Manchester City the United’s midfield were overrun by the intelligent midfield of City. United lacked someone who could destroy the City’s passing rhythm and start its own rhythm. Even against Everton in the run-in, United lacked someone who could hold the ball in the midfield and avoid any resistence from the dangerous Everton. What Manchester United needed was ball retainer, midfield maestro, game dictator something the flair of Moura or the runs and goals of Van Persie lacks.

Do Manchester United really need an attacker and attacking midfielder rather than someone who is capable to dictate plays through the ever wanting engine room of Manchester United????
